How Does Bicycling With the Wrong Bike Injure the Penis?


Bicycling is one of the greatest modes of transportation which can keep you in top physical condition. Unfortunately, if you are not careful it can cause a problem with your penis. It seems that the seat that you choose for your cycling adventures is what is responsible for the penis problems.

The pressure of sitting on a seat such as a bicycle seat has been reported to be a problem for many years. In the past, it was found that too much time in the saddle caused problems. It resulted in permanent impotence in some cases so it was deemed important to find the root cause of the problem.

The injury actually occurs to the nerves in the penis and can arise after a considerable amount of bike riding. The recommendation for riding a bike is no more than three hours a week. In fact in one of the studies that was conducted on erectile dysfunction and bicycle riding, one urologist even went further by saying that men should never ride bicycles! Of course, there is a great deal of controversy with this statement but there have been as many as one hundred thousand cases of erectile dysfunction that have been linked to bicycle riding; this is out of the one hundred million riders.

The study has provided a great deal of controversy and was considered to have gone too far. The problem comes from the standard bicycle seat that is found on most bicycles. The rider puts a great deal of pressure on an area called the perineum. This area of the body is where the nerves that control the penis are centered. When a cyclist puts too much pressure on this part of their body for a long length of time problems will obviously appear.

The solution to the problem is a change in the seat that is used on the bicycle. There have been some positive results with the use of noseless bicycle seats that remove the pressure from this part of the body. If you do not wish to change the seat on your bicycle, tipping the nose of the seat down may help to alleviate the pressure.

Changing the seat of the bicycle is something that should be considered when planning to ride a bicycle a great deal. It is a wonderful form of exercise and the simple change in seat can eliminate the problem of erectile dysfunction. If you notice any numbness in your penis or testicles after riding your bike for a period of time, you should see this as a sign that the seat on your bike needs to be changed.
