Contraceptive Methods: Male Condoms
Some while ago, condoms
where a rarity in most countries. They were only found
'on the black market' and in order to buy them you had to do a lot of effort.
Today they are very easy to find, being available in a wide range of models,
sizes, textures, lubricants and even different flavors. But how did this change occur?
In today's society the interest for safe responsible sex
has seemingly increased
and condoms are considered more and more respectable. Unfortunately though, most
teenagers are strangers to the notion of "responsible sex", proven by the
numerous cases of pregnancies and STD's that affect very young teens.
Thus, adults are informed about the risks of the unprotected sexual relationships,
sexually active persons are more and more appreciating the male latex condom. But
why is the male condom so appreciated? The community of medics has declared that
latex condoms are the best contraceptive method available today (except for abstinence,
which can always be regarded as a solution), helping prevent pregnancies and reducing
the risk of responsible sex
or other disease carrying microorganisms.
A male condom is a device shaped like a penis that is used during sexual intercourse
and is usually made of latex or more recently polyurethane. It can fit over an erect
penis or a similarly-shaped sex toy. It works by providing a barrier between partners
so that bodily fluids, like semen
, blood, and saliva, are not shared. Male condoms are 85-98% effective.
They are also very easy to use. The male condom is placed on a man's erect penis.
Before putting on the condom, uncircumcised men may find it useful to pull back
the foreskin. With one hand, squeeze a half-inch of the tip to remove air and
leave room for semen. With your other hand, you can unroll the condom to the
base of the penis
. The band of latex at the open end of a male condom helps to
keep it from slipping during intercourse.
After ejaculating, withdraw the penis before losing the erection. To keep sperm from
leaking out, hold the condom on the penis during withdrawal. Throw away the condom
and use a new one if sex continues. Maintain distance between you and your
partner's genitals to help prevent infection or pregnancy. Sperm may still
be on the penis after the condom is taken off.
Men who had trouble finding condoms right for their penises have now a care less:
a German, Jan Vinzenz Krause, has invented the spray-condom, adaptable to any penis.
The spray-on system is a pomp filled with liquid latex. This is pulverized on
the erect penis through a tiny hole, covering it in just a few seconds. This
condom can mould on every type of penis.
Inexpensive, easy to use, having few side-effects, and offering protection against
sexually transmitted diseases, condoms should not be avoided by anyone, at every
intercourse, because it is always better to prevent than to treat.
