Drink, Be Merry and Give Prostate Cancer the Boot!
Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer men may suffer from. Like any other form of cancer, prostate cancer can be treated if detected early.
However, instead of treating cancer, it is always better to work at ways at preventing prostate cancer.
Although eating healthy foods and exercising is one of the best ways to protect from prostate cancer, research has also proven that red wine is very effective in
reducing the incidences of prostate cancer.
According to the study, red wine and prostate cancer are interrelated, where drinking a glass or two of red wine is effective in preventing the risk of prostate cancer in men.
In fact, men who moderately drink red wine are half as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer as men who don’t drink at all.
Drink in moderation
The moderate amount of red wine that can be safely drunk to help protect from prostate cancer is four to seven glasses of it per week. You only need to drink one glass of
red wine for protection from prostate cancer - no point drinking twice as more, thinking that it will provide twice the benefits, as this is not at all true.
If you drink red wine in moderation, studies reveal that it does not only provide protection from prostate cancer, but also lowers the risk of heart attacks, strokes,
erectile dysfunction, diabetes and an enlarged prostate.
How red wine helps in protecting from prostate cancer
The reason red wine is effective in protecting against prostate cancer is because of the compound ‘resveratrol’ which exhibits both anti-oxidant and anti-cancer properties
and exists in raspberries, peanuts, grapes and blueberries. This is why only red wine and not white wine, beer or hard liquor is effective in protecting from prostate cancer.
Even the flavanoids in red wine, along with resveratrol work against male hormones, which stimulate the prostate gland. Flavonoids are found in many plants while resveratrol
is found abundantly in the skin of red grapes.
It has been proven through experiments that flavanoids tend to reduce the production of PSA, which are substances produced by prostate cancer cells. Increased PSA levels
are considered to be a sign of prostate cancer.
So by drinking red wine in moderation, PSA levels remain under control to reduce the risk of prostate cancer in a man.
