Women Prefer Effeminate Men

Women consider that men with rigid features – long nose, slim lips, strong jaws, small eyes – tend to be dominated, to cheat and to have less affection than men with juicy lips, arched eye-brows and big eyes.

Psychologists from Durham and Saint Andrews Universities made a study in which four hundred British men and women participated. These were all asked to analyze a series of digitally modified photos with masculine and feminine figures, and they were then asked what features they would associate to those appearances. It seems that effeminate men were women’s favorites regarding steady couple relationships. Their features inspire trust, therefore these men were recommended as great figure fathers.

Participants were also asked to associate the faces with some positive or negative adjectives which would characterize them. The soft, clean appearance was considered the healthiest and got the positive appreciations from more points of view. Harmonious physical features and the expressivity of details have positively impressed the participants, but the elder faces were preferable to those younger.

The face masculinity is strongly linked to the testosterone level, associated with predisposition to violence, infidelity and divorce, and it’s evolution in time. Men with rigid features were considered more capable to get involved in physical fights, to be hostile with the authorities, to have sex with more partners, to cheat and to physically abuse women. The conclusion of this study, said professor David Parett from St Andrews University, is that both men and women are looking for partners whose appearance suggests mainly health and emotional stability.

Here is an explanation: there are studies that show the fact that an effeminate man needs a woman who has a little masculinity in her and this does not strictly refer to the physical aspect, but also to the psychological component, in order to complete one another and to form a whole. In order to do this, the man must express the feminine side of his individuality, the complementary sides of his personality. There is an archetype of the whole and of the self, ANIMA, which is an invitation addressed to the man to be complete.

This archetype designates this aspiration, being a fundamental archetype which is projected in the form of some different figures considering the four integration stages. Anima, the feminine inner side of a man’s soul, is projecting in the exterior: in the first stage this expresses itself as a female-woman: the woman with obvious and pronounced sexual attributes. The second stage is the fairy-woman: romantic, delicate (movie stars). The third stage is the lady-woman, imposing such a respect and admiration that it does not awaken the desire of sexual union, but emotional devotion (Virgin Mary).

The fourth and the last stage is the wise-woman, who enlightens and seduces the spirit (Athena, the goddess of wisdom, or Giaconda). Anima is therefore the complementary feminine image between a man and his subconscious, an inner guide signaling the Self messages.
