Powerful enhancement ingredients: Horny Goat Weed

When it comes to male enhancement supplements China certainly took hold of an opportunity when a goat herder noticed that his goats were far more sexually energetic after consuming a plant named Epimedium; known in China as Yin Yang Huo which aptly translates to ‘Horny Goat Weed’.

Epimedium draws its name from its likeness to a similar plant that grew in Media, an ancient kingdom; it is part of a genus of 25 plant species. These species are found in south and east Asia and also in some areas of south and central Europe. The Epimedium herb flowers and gives off a pungent smell. It is also known by several other names being, Bishop’s Hat, Fairy Wings and Barrenwort. You may not find the name Epimedium or Horny Goat Weed on some branded enhancement supplements as the makers prefer to use the mystery of ‘unfamiliar ingredient’.

In the United States Epimedium, when taken by itself, is used as an aphrodisiac; and although also used in the treatment of liver, joint, back and kidney problems it is a integral part of many natural male enhancement supplements.

Epimedium is used by drying out the stems and leaves and then crushing them into a powder; the powder can also be turned into a liquid. The aphrodisiac uses derive from Icariin element of the plant which widens or dilates blood vessels.

The use of Epimedium as a natural male enhancement in humans has never been clinically studied so why it works for humans is still a puzzle. However from animal studies it has been clinically shown that there is a boost of intracavernous pressure. Icariin is similar to drugs like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, but a weaker version, which are used in the treatment of erection dysfunction (ED) and is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. Male erection happens when cGMP, an enzyme, allows the muscles of the penis to relax facilitating blood to flow into it. An erection ends when PDE5 is generated and neutralizes the effects of cGMP.

The best male enhancement supplements, such as VigRX Plus pills , will normally include a combination of erection enhancing ingredients; these ingredients could be cum ar fi Cuscuta, Ginko Biloba as well as Epimedium. When sold alone Epimedium comes in various strengths, with the lower strengths taking a number of days before they produce results.
