How to Treat Jock Itch At Home

Among other diseases not so fortunate men have to endure in their lifetime counts jock itch. This is an infection of the groin region caused by a fungus. Also known as groin itch, this is a very uncomfortable disease and can cause a lot of feelings of shame and awkwardness if it is "relieved" in public. Like many other embarrassing health problems, as hidradentitis suppurativa, fungal toe nail, spots on the penis , jock itch is a taboo subject from those who suffer from it, taboo even for the talks they have with their doctors. Therefore, we come to their help with a series of easy home-treatments.

First of all, you have to be sure you actually suffer from groin itch. Follow the signs and symptoms your body sends to you: if you accuse sensations of burning and itching in the groin area, anus or thigh skin folds, maybe extending back to the perineum and perianal areas which will appear tan, red, brownish, with cracking, peeling or flaking skin you certainly have jock itch. If you a have a groin area of about half-inch, on both sides, you also suffer from it.

Unfortunately, it does not stop here; the area may expand and further sores may develop, followed by a rash; it may ooze or blister . If the rash advances, the direction will be towards your inner thigh. The skin between these borders will turn reddish-brown, exhibit small pimples, pustules.

What are the causes? Primarily, some infections caused by a diminished immune system, followed by fungus from other body parts, warm and damp environments allowing the cultivation of fungus, sweaty tight or rubbing clothes.

The treatment can be simple. It will involve practical methods of cleaning, and will only require you to make a trip to the pharmacy for a few antifungal applications. Antifungal powders work best, also traditionally creams with clotrimazole, miconazole, butenafine. In the case of itching, we recommend glucocorticoid steroids, combined with anti-fungal drugs to prevent further irritation due to the patient scratching the affected area. Steroids used alone may worsen the condition. Hot baths and tight clothes are best to be avoided.

Another home remedy is tea tree oil; expose the areas to fresh air, sunlight; keep them dry and clean, especially after workouts. Use warm water and mild soap/oatmeal. Gently take away pieces of skin that has dried. Avoid anti-bacterial or deodorant soaps. Hydrogen peroxide may irritate the infection. Loose cotton fitting underwear is recommended. You may also sleep naked to let the infected area air out. Be careful because excessive treatment may cause further irritation.

In about three weeks, following a treatment, the jock itch should disappear. If not, make contact with a health care practitioner or skin specialist. To prevent it from re-occurring, try avoiding to share clothes, towels, make sure the groin is completely dry after having a bath before covering it with clothes; once a day use antifungal powders/sprays to prevent infections.
