Do you know that men can get breast cancer too?
Imagine being told that you, a healthy young male, have breast cancer. How would it make you feel? For many, it is embarrassing, as well as actually having
to live with the fact that they have cancer and the thing is, male breast cancer is more common that some people may have initially realised.
The cases of male breast cancer account for 1% of all cancer cases and when you think how many people have to live with cancer and the amount of different
cancers there are, that is a fairly large percentage. You also have to take into account that many males do not realise that they can get this type of cancer
and therefore do not immediately rush to their doctor when they first notice strange occurrences within their chest region.
There are many symptoms that you should be on the lookout for if you are male and especially if there is a history of this cancer in your family. Unusual lumps
and swellings are the first things that send many women to the doctor, and the same should apply for men. Not only is this confined to the breast region however,
it can be as far up as into your armpit and also in your chest muscle.
If the nipple begins to face in towards your body, as well as the skin being dimpled or somewhat
puckering in appearance, you should also get yourself off to the doctor as these are common symptoms of male breast cancer and if this is combined with a discharge from
one of your nipples, or red flaky patches of skin, then you should not wait any longer no matter how humiliating you may believe it to be!
Early diagnosis in male breast cancer cases generally lead to much better survival rates and also, the earlier it is spotted and treated, the quicker you can get back to
normal life. This means that if you notice anything unusual about your breasts, it is important that you report them to your GP as soon as possible.
Nobody wants to live
with cancer, and men especially tend to be rather embarrassed about broaching the subject but the longer it is left, the more dangerous it can become. You never know,
it may just prove to be nothing anyway. Therefore, do not delay and get yourself off to the doctor as soon as you notice anything strange!
