Panic Attacks During Sexual Intercourse

With most couples complaining they do not find the time to enjoy sexual experiences as often as they would like, indicating that sex is a normal, enjoyable and desirable aspect of any relationship, it is hard to believe that there are actually guys out there who happen to suffer panic attacks in the very middle of a lovemaking session.

It is not as if they would want it to happen, because everyone knowing what panic attacks mean would never ever wish for them, but they happen and the sufferers have little options to cope with.

Easy to say yet hard to keep in mind and put in practice, if you will ever happen to experience such an episode, just remember that it is not going to kill you, regardless how much will your heart pump to break your chest.

To better understand what is going on with you, chest pains, excessive sweating, breathing problems, pounding racing heartbeats, flushes or chills, nausea, dizziness and an incredibly hard to control fear are the most common symptoms of a panic attack. Some mistake it with a cardiac attack, which increases their anxiety even more and aggravates the crisis.

As there are millions of sufferer worldwide, researchers have been studying this condition intensively and still, the news are not too gratifying. We do not know what precisely causes it, therefore the treatment is challenging.

And for a man to take advantage of the medical discoveries of this field, he should first admit having a problem, which is not very common. Discussing it with the partner and then with a doctor will increase the odds for the patient to feel less stressed about it and be prescribed with effective medication.

Contrary to expectations, panic attacks experienced during sexual intercourse have little to do with performance anxiety. In fact, if you simply consider the way they manifest, you can see that some symptoms, such as racing heartbeat, flushes and sweating are quite common to any exciting sexual experience, so someone prone to have these manifestations will amplify all of them and generate new ones, all characterizing a panic episode as part of a vicious, hard to control circle. The man will be unable to continue, requiring a long break to calm down, regulate his heartbeat and respiration.

However, researchers claim that these attacks occur more often at a certain period of time following the sexual intercourse, like anytime in between one and three hours, when a guy may be already asleep. Waking up with these feelings and a rush of adrenaline soon after you had sex is most likely a panic attack related to intercourse, which also happens to have a medical term as it is a spread affection: the syndrome of Post Coital Anxiety, PCAS shortly named.

The negative aspect is that once you experience one seizure, you have all the chances for more to come. The psychological implication considered, one may inevitably fear about undergoing the seizure again, his nervousness setting the premises for a new attack.

Despite the discouraging aspect of healthcare practitioners not knowing for sure which the causes of panic attacks are, a man has even less means to overcome the problem without professional help. Even the attempt of hiding the way you feel from your partner can worsen your condition.  If you are in this situation, you need to see a doctor and receive medication, because there are certain pills that can considerably help. And therapy is the second best thing you can do.
