Are You Doing Everything Possible to Take Care of Yourself?
It is often a stereotype that men are not as healthy as women and that they do not need to go to the doctor as often. This is a common misconception, but it is one that
still holds true today.
In fact, many men do not get their regular physicals as often as they should because it is seen as a weakness to have to go to a doctor,
and this causes many to believe that by going to the doctor they are opening themselves up and becoming more vulnerable.
Another reason that men neglect their care and do not get regular check-ups is that it is an uncomfortable situation for them, so rather than facing it head on they
avoid the doctor in hopes that everything is okay.
The truth of the matter, however, is that men suffer from just as many health problems as women and that by avoiding
these problems they are often just succeeding in making them worse. Many times there are stories and cases of men who only go to the doctor under extreme duress,
and by the time that they go the situation is far worse than it originally was.
When men are young they are told that when they get hurt or are sick that they need to “suck it up” and “quit crying like a baby.” It is this kind of mentality that
lingers and can affect how often a man goes to the doctor later on in his life.
This concept is often reinforced by society and the emphasis it puts on the man being
the strong, solid head of the household. If a man goes to the doctor and admits that he does not feel well then this can cause him to feel like he is not in charge
of his life.
However, this thinking is something that should be addressed and changed. Just think of how much better it would be to find out if there was a problem in a timely
manner so that you could take charge and address it head on.
By going to the doctor every year and getting a full physical done you are in fact taking the situation
into your own hands. It proves that you are a strong individual who can face anything.
