What are Vasectomy Reversals?
Some men decide that they do not want to have children and so they have a vasectomy, a procedure that prevents sperm from entering the semen.
However, sometimes men regret this decision or they decide that they want to start a family or have more children. Fortunately, vasectomy reversal surgery is possible.
This procedure undoes everything the vasectomy did. It is a more complex surgery than a vasectomy since it involves reconnecting the tubes that transfer the sperm
from the testicles into the penis and semen. There is no time limit on having a vasectomy reversal; however, there is only about a 50 percent success rate.
In addition to the 50 percent success rate, there are a number of other risks that come with the process. It is possible to get an infection around the area where
the surgery took place. It’s also possible to find your scrotum inflamed or even have bleeding occur within your scrotum. Damage to the nerves or the blood vessels
within the scrotum is also possible, and this can actually reduce your chances of getting your partner pregnant.
Because of the low success rate and the many risks, your doctor will want to run a number of tests before doing a vasectomy reversal. This includes making certain
that you can produce fertile sperm and make certain your partner can have children. This way, you will know for certain if it is worth having a reversal.
To have a vasectomy reversal, you will need to go to a hospital, but the procedure only takes about four hours and an overnight stay is not necessary.
You will want to select a doctor with a high success rate to perform your surgery. Ask him or her how any vasectomy reversals they have done and how many men
were able to have children following their vasectomy reversal. You will want to have all of your questions answered completely before you have the procedure.
Following your surgery you may need to wear a jockstrap to help apply pressure to keep any swelling under control. You will also need to use an ice pack to
prevent swelling as well. As the painkillers from the operation wear off, you’ll experience some minor pain. However, this pain will wear off in a few days.
